Item   Action
1. Finance
  • No news on the opening of the new bank account. There is some delay over getting the CNPJ number registered.

2. Extra-curricular activities
  • Drama Teacher - YN has approached Maria Lucia Prioli who runs theatre groups for children, to see she can recommend a teacher for next term
  • Rooms - The use of the WDA room for Ballet is under negotiation with Rev. Simon Boxall. It was again suggested that Brownies, which is a very small group, could go there. No one was optimistic about this ever happening in practice, and the idea was shelved once again.
  • Chess - Negotiations for a teacher have slowed down somewhat since last month as the Grand Master has travelled. YN to persevere and see if things can be organised for the second half of term as there seems to be plenty of interest.

3. Urca
  • Urca correspondence - Urca does not have a distribution list according to families, i.e. where only the youngest child takes correspondence home, so for the time being, all Urca children will have to receive all the PTA notices that concern the whole school.
  • Student Council - LD has established email contact with Gabriela Clayton, Head of the Student Council. LD would still like to have more interaction between PTA and SC. PTA will help them fund the Music Fesival and RJ to set up a meeting.
  • Food - there have been complaints from a couple of parents that the food at Urca is terribly fattening. Too much fried food, several carbohydrates in one meal, heavy desserts etc. RJ's opinion was that there are healthy choices available for those who want them. One or two parents said their children always complain about the quality of the food. The point was made that the children only eat one meal a day at school, and that parents are responsible for the other two, so does it really matter? However, it was agreed that Lizanka Marinheiro and/or Luciana Marinho plus Urca reps (JB, JL), should go to Urca for lunch and review the menu in general with the nutritionist, as they did at Botafogo.
NB: Daniela for numbers of photocopies

4. Communications
  • There was no one present from the Communications sub-committee to report on Halloween folders or advertising. LD asked that one of the committee members please keep us informed.

5. Website
  • Marco Taquechel, a new parent/carer, was volunteered as someone who can keep the website updated since Cynthia Fraga is so busy with her new business. He has extensive experience in web design and is willing to help out if he can.
JL to initiate contact with CF
6. Events
  • Halloween Fun - Various new ideas were put forward for entertainment on the day and it was agreed that we would look into the price and effectiveness of having an entertainer.
It was also felt that the lavatories are in need of some serious refurbishment in order to cope with the number of people.
  • Non-uniform Day - to be held on 4th October for Botafogo. Urca are also planning one but no one was sure of the date.

7. Any other business
  • JB reported that there has been a request from a mother for more, and more organised seating on the morning bus between Botafogo and Urca. It seems it runs on a first-come-first-served basis, whereas parents were told that transportation would be available between the two sites for those who required it.
JB/JL to talk to Roberto at Urca

There being no other business, the meeting was closed at 8.10 p.m.

NB -Date for next meeting:MONDAY, 7th October 2002, 7 pm
